A2 MEDIA PORTFOLIO
CENTRE NUMBER: 22357
CANDIDATE NUMBER: 5290
How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research:
After spending months researching the indie genre and compiling my website at the same time, I noticed social media was one of the most important new technologies that played part in my project research. Facebook and Twitter at times provided me with more relevant and up-to-date information than Wikipedia did. Meanwhile Tumblr, Pinterest and WeHeartIt provided me pictures and other visual information for my research which helped illustrate the concepts I was discussing.
Of course one of the most important sites was YouTube, where I searched for loads of music videos of indie and other genres. It allowed me to quickly find what I was looking for (i.e. a specific example of an indie music video such as Birdy’s People Help The People) as well as browse through music videos to find anything I could use for my portfolio.
During my research, I conducted a survey on the indie music video where I asked people (aged 16 and over) to answer some questions on their expectations and ideas on the setting, costume and other elements of music videos while focusing on the indie genre. I used Google Forms online which allowed me to produce a form and send it to people on email. The results could be summarised in charts and such, which was very helpful when trying to portray the collected information visually.
Google in general was incredibly useful, especially when trying to get to the source of the information I looked for.

Planning & Construction:
When planning and constructing my project and portfolio, I used more technical devices such as Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro and Nikon d5200.
I haven’t used Photoshop seriously before the start of my project which made me use the program while also learning about its features at the same time. At times this was an issue, but overall I increased the level of skill I had on Photoshop prior the project.
Adobe Premiere Pro was surprisingly more difficult than Adobe Premiere Elements, which I used for my AS media movie trailer. The software has increased the amount of features it offers which made it more difficult to find the ones we needed for our music video. However, just like with Photoshop, we researched online the areas which we needed most as well as looked for new exciting features that we could use to make our video more professional and used these tutorials and advice to construct the video as we went along.
Another new device we encountered was Audacity which allowed us to better the quality of the song we ourselves have recorded.
During my planning and construction stages, I have improved on my skills of Prezi, Microsoft Office and WIX. Building a website on Wix has been a challenge, but once I figured it out it became a quick and easy way of building my portfolio.

Evaluation
To present my work and its analysis in my evaluation, I have used such technologies as Prezi, bubbl.us and other.
Prezi allowed me to represent what I have learned in a creative way while bubbl.us helped create useful mind maps to concisely show what I have used during my evaluation of the music video and the ancillary tasks.
What I also used was Google Forms again because it was a useful way of conducting a focus group survey and collect answers which helped me look at my work from different perspectives.
