Music video conventions: Indie
Indie genre evokes from its audience a certain emotion and feeling which is acomplished by applying specific codes and conventions of the genre in indie music videos. Some of these generic elements include:

use of instruments such as guitar, piano, drums etc

distinctive aesthetics in comparison to mainstream culture

strong association between the lyrics and visual representation of the theme/context of the band/artist/song
-
appropriate appearance of the band/artist in the music video
-
brand identity/performance style is appropriate to the genre in its focus on the meaning of the music/message within the songs
Indie music video narrative:
-
artist/band is shown performing
-
the video follows a narrative which links to the lyrics/theme of the song (see: All I Want by Kodaline)

mise en scene is used in a relevant way, props such as instruments and settings such as woods are used often

editing of the video is in line with the song (i.e. if the song is slow, the editing will be similar; see: Skinny Love by Birdy)
