Rap Music Video Analysis

Telegraph Ave
Setting/location: the video uses locations such as the forest and the beach and both locations have been creatively used during day and night time. The use of time of the day produces an opportunity to film in the same location while keeping the passing of time significant. The use of naturalistic envinorment compliments the song as it references a lot of specific locations: 'she waits 'till I arrive in Oakland'; 'before I get to The Bay'; 'house in Kauai'.
Lighting: The key lighting is clearly coming from the car lights while there's also back light to contrast with the key light. The use of lighting in this shot acts as a separating aspect. It's creative use gives the video a concept; that is, something always separating them. It could be argued that it signifies a constant struggle of interruption in their relationship/failure to form one.

Colour: the use of colour in Drake's video has been limited to either faded effects or, since a big part of the video is filmed during the night, very little of it is altogether. This is often the aesthetic in this artist's videos which works well with his brand identity.
Costume: in terms of costume, Drake is wearing rather casual clothes as opposed to smart dress which has mainly to do with the location of the video. In Drake's other videos, such as Hold On We're Going Home, he's seen wearing different types of clothing. His costume signifies Drake being in a home environment and feeling comfortable while still expressing himself and his music through his costume.
