My recreation of a digipak cover

Adding brightness/contrast: after finding a font which is similar to the one on Birdy's album cover, I altered the brightness and contrast of the picture to lessen the colour and sharpen the contrast between them. The original picture is too soft and, compared to Birdy's, too colourful as well.

Altering Hue/Saturation/Lightness: to replicate the colouring of the original cover, I increased the hue which made the picture's tone more yellow/green which is to Birdy's cover colour palette. I also added some lightness to make the picture brighter and the dress Birdy is wearing less red so it doesn't create too big of a contrast within the cover.

This took me around half an hour which is mostly due to selecting the best font I can find on photoshop and finding a picture similar to one of Birdy's original cover. Since this was more of a practice, I experimented with photoshop more to create similar effects without looking at any tutorials or how to's. In my opinion, learning even the basic photoshop tricks and how to use some tools helps a lot immediately because the finished product looks more professional as opposed to creating it with a program online. The only serious problem I faced was selecting the exact font for my cover as Birdy used for her own; unfortunately, this is difficult as often these fonts represent brand identity and are created individually for artists only. Other than that, if trying to replicate a cover or a whole digipak, it's important to select similar pictures which all represent Birdy in a similar way that the original photographs do. I didn't realise just how little sometimes is needed; for instance, if the picutre is already well taken, a lot of post-production can actually ruin it. Since Meg, our artist, is performing a simple song in our music video promotion, I thought it's a good idea to keep the cover of my digipak simple and minimalistic also. This means I have to put more effort while taking the actual picture; however, I do not wis to rely heavily on post-production because it doesn't link too well with my (indie) genre.
