Indie Genre
A music genre which emerged in the UK in early 1990s from singers/songwriters who were immensly inspired by the folk/rock/country music of the 70s and 80s. Record labels such as Rough Trade Records (London) and Postcard Records (Glasgow) were amongst the very first labels to release music of partcularly this genre.
Indie sub-genres were developed soon afterwards, including indie-pop, indie-rock, indie-folk, etc. Nowadays, Indie has developed into a greater part of our culture, integrating film and fashion while keeping artists like The Smiths, Elliott Smith and The Shins immensely relevant.
Some popular indie artists now include The Kooks (indie pop), Regina Spektor (indie folk) and Arcade Fire (indie rock).

Some of personal favourite indie music videos:
Take Me To Church: a music video which has incredible depth as well as technical competence. The narrative of the video is compelling and the concept behind it is very important. Read my prop analysis based on this video here.
Gunshot: like the previous video, this Lykke Li's performance contains a strong messege about culture (pop culture especially) nowadays. It's less narrative based video and the artist obviously concentrated more on her performance and the idea behind the performance.
Sad Dream might as well be one of my favourite indie music videos of all time because of it's naturalistic settings as well as the lyrical representation through visuals. It's quite conventional because it combines performance and narrative which frequently results into a quality music video.
Riptide is one of the most bizzare music videos I've come across ever since I started my research which already says a lot about the video. It has left a big impact on the way music videos can be constructed, where every detail is significant.
