Recreating a Magazine Advert

Record how long this took and how you approached the task – what did you copy first and why? Create a tick list of how you will approach making your own product
-What conventions of form are you working to? What conventions are you defying? How successful is this product and why?
-Then, label the finished design to say how you feel about the finished product – what skills have you used? What problems did you face? What have you learnt before taking on your own magazine advertisement? This should like closely to the research you have created for your own magazine advertisement.
For my recreation of a magazine advert, I chose this one of Ellie Goulding's (on the left), since Ellie's genre is similar to our own artist's. This recreation took me about three hours. What I copied first was the brightness, contrast and saturation to make the picture I have chosen more similar to the original advert. The advert seemed quite dramatic in terms of post-production effects which I tried to replicate by increasing the amount of brightness/contrast/saturatiion I have used.
One of the most interesting parts in this practice was the learning of how to darken the edges of the picture. Originally, I hadn't possed that skill which led me to finidng a tutorial online. It actually turned out to be quite quick and simple and I as able to make my advert more similar to the original. The darkened edges give Ellie more spotlight for herself because the lighting centrifies her which is important because it attracts the audience's attention.
The adding of the text perhaps took the longest as I had to alter between colours as well as sizes and positions of the text on the image. I wasn't able to add the exact same font that was used for Ellie Goulding's name at the top of the advert, but instead I chose a quite simple font, nothing too dramatic so it doesn't distract the gaze from Ellie.
